ACUPUNCTURE ON MAUI

Whether you live on Maui or are visiting, Haiku is a great location to visit for your regular tune-up acupuncture, first time, or continued care. Many people come to Maui to heal because of the connection with nature, endless ways to be active, an abundance of nutritious and clean food supply and of course the amazing community of people that reside on Maui.

Acupuncture, Medical Massage, and other accessory techniques are used to bring the body back into balance, stimulate natural healing and promote health. Over many years TCM has mapped out the flow of Qi (the natural energy occurring in the body) through a system based on meridians or channels running down the front and back of our bodies. Illness results when Qi stagnates or when it is blocked or when the body has too much, or too little, of it. When energy flows freely, well being is restored.

Tiny needles are strategically placed on the body treat an array of symptoms ranging from cough and common cold complaints, to physical pain and emotional disturbances like anxiety, depression, and insomnia. Further, seemingly unrelated issues such as fertility, digestive complaints, headaches are also effectively treated by Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine.   This is because Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is individualized health care based on differential diagnosis.

Individuals describe feeling calm during the treatment, deeply relaxed, and sometimes even fall asleep. Acupuncture releases endorphins and enkephalins—the same chemicals released in the brain after a long run. During the treatment, as few as two needles may be chosen, however, an average treatment consists of 10-20 needles in one session. Some acupuncture points have many functions, and “less is more” when directing the energy flow.

Stress & Living on Maui

Although Maui is one of the healthiest places to live, its residents have been exposed to cane burning smoke and volcanic ash, among other environmental toxins. Acupuncture is a great way to help detox your body and tap into your own energy source to help beat symptoms like cough, congestion and foggy brain.

Stress & Disease

Being alive is stressful. We have many problems to solve and we encounter unexpected dangers and threats to our wellbeing. Fight or flight is the stress reaction designed to help protect us in emergency situations, yet if needed repeatedly, this reaction has corrosive effects. Evidence supports that chronic stress diminishes the effects of the immune system and makes us more susceptible to cellular mutations that can lead to cancer. Chronic stress also fuels inflammation, which increases incidence of heart attack, stroke, diabetes, and cancer.  The immune system also immobilizes white blood cells to fight and kill mutated cancerous cells. Diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, type 1 diabetes, and thyroid problems are among the long list of autoimmune disorders sometimes caused by the breakdown of the immune system.
